This past June, Jungle Mamas ran one its Safe Birth and Family Health workshops in the community of Wampuik, Ecuador. This last workshop was considered one of the most successful ones in the history of the Jungle Mamas workshops; considering that over 40 women attended, this group was one of the most active and participating groups they have ever had. Melida had the pleasure of being one of them.
In each workshop, Jungle Mamas employees teach about the use of a safe birth kit. Each birth kit contains maternal postpartum pads, cotton diapers to measure the amount of bleeding once the baby is born, strings to tie and cut the umbilical cord, two pairs of sanitary gloves, hand soap, a sterile sheet to measure the bleeding and maintain the space clean, a candle for night births, a traditional scarf to wrap the baby, and baby clothes for the first months.
For Melida, this kit provides her with basic materials that are needed for her to have a safe birth and assure her and her baby’s well-being. This could not have been possible if it weren’t for your kind generosity towards our program, Katie! We thank you so much!
