Lucia is a 17 year old woman living in Waruintsa, a small communtiy in the jungles of Ecuador. She is now pregnant with her first child and was selected as a delegate from her community to attend the Safe Birthing and Family Health Workshop hosted by Jungle Mamas.
Many people who attended this workshop from other communities had to walk long distances through the jungle to arrive. Lucia walked four hours! She was excited to learn more about the process of safe birthing. In Achuar culture, it is typical for women to go into the jungle alone at the time of birth. Lucia stated “now I can attend my own birth safely with this kit.”
Thanks to your contribution towards assuring safe births, Vern, Lucia’s birth experience will not only have limited risks, but it will also help generate more interest in safe birth kits throughout the community of Waruintsa.
